According to my brand new copy of The Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds, Second Edition this is an Australian White Ibis, they were all over the place in Sydney.

Okay, anyone know what this one is? My google searches for “weird head spike bird australia” were fruitless. What is the deal with its head thing.

Here’s a little doodle of my first Super Cool Wildlife Encounter, and he’s called a Galah, or Rose-Breasted Cockatoo. I thought they were pigeons at first because they were all just standing around on the ground, but apparently they like to hang out in open fields and look for food. That there are flocks of parrots right outside my apartment is one of the best things about Canberra, I think.
Did you know I am in Australia right now? It’s true! Here is a picture of a bird that I saw.
